Habitat Success Stories
While working for Habitat for Humanity Yuba/Sutter, I got the opportunity to sit down with individuals who were either homeless or at risk of being homeless and reached out to Habitat for Humanity for help. The goal of these "success story" videos is to highlight the progress each of the tenants have made while also informing the public of Habitat's mission and how their organization is helping low-income families and individuals within the community.
Planting Good Seeds
Tom McFarren was among the first tenants to move in to Harmony Village shortly after it's completion in December 2020. Three years later, he reflects on what his affordable housing unit means to him, what it's like being a part of the tight-knit community within Harmony Village, and how Habitat for Humanity Yuba/Sutter has helped transform his outlook on life.
Finding Harmony
While working for Habitat for Humanity Yuba/Sutter, I got the opportunity to sit down with a woman named Kimberly who was homeless and literally fighting for her life on the streets of Marysville, CA for over three years. This is her success story on how she overcame that adversity, sought help, and found her forever home.
Brian and Gina's Story
After both coming close to being homeless,
Brian and Gina found sanctuary in one of Habitat for Humanity's affordable housing structures. Due to their newfound stability, the two were eventually able to take their lives back into their own hands and find a home they now happily share together.
Forward Progress
Camp Fire: Butte Creek Canyon
In November of 2018, the first spark of what would eventually be called "The Camp Fire" ignited in a northern California town called Paradise. Little did anyone know this fire would become the biggest and deadliest fire in all of California's history. I got to sit down and interview a few Butte Creek Canyon residents who were impacted by this tragedy. These are their stories.
Honey Run Covered Bridge
The Honey Run Covered Bridge was a historic landmark of northern California that was destroyed in the 2018 Camp Fire. The bridge was beloved by it's community, so much so that the Honey Run Covered Bridge Association, a non-profit dedicated to reconstruction efforts, has since raised nearly 2 million dollars to fund it's rebuild. The following video showcases the progress made thus far.
